The only problem with that sort of idea, is that the more a shop gets stolen from, there's no way for the shop owner to defend their store from you thieves who get better and better. Now a roll, counter-roll system might be nice, but a store owner could theoretically ignore the roll and just keep on going with their business.

To be honest, its a workable idea in my mind, but you might as well just play ro-sham-bo for it or talk to the shop owner about trying to steal from them in order to rp it out. Whats the fun of stealing if you don't stand a chance of getting caught? Not to mention we do already have a dice system in place that could easily be put to use for this idea, but it would require you to talk with the shop owners before hand.

After all, this is a roleplay site. So while having mechanisms in place to prevent cheating, GMing, and the like is good, at the heart this idea in my opinion needs to be centered around playing it out. I like the idea of allowing people to trying to steal it, but rp it out. Flash programs be damned =P

Well I think when you go to steal from a shop in the original plan was that you'd have to get lock picks, and then "use" them. The lock picks would only work if the shop is labled "closed" (ie when they are offline), and even then only on a chance precoded like a gambling system. Included would also be a chance that the guards are tipped that instant by some little old night owl lady. So you have the following chances a) you fail, nothing tipped. b) you fail, guard tipped c) you succeed, nothing tipped and d) you succeed, guard tipped.

Thus IC stimulation is in play whether the shopkeep is there or not. I think they should get an automated message going "hey you were stolen from and lost _____" if it applies... or even a "you were broken into" for the chances that the people got in but had to ditch before they can complete the job.

Then to make it "harder" lock picks that would work would probably be sold by a specific shop... so again, that person has to be online for you to get any.

Just a thought... that may or may not have been in the original plans.

And that could work.
It still carries a rp element to it too.
But I have no idea how easily that situation could be coded.

If its possible that's awesome. Otherwise it seems like a coded version of a Dungeon Master. "roll this much to see if this happens, or if you evade this," "do this to determine your next action." One other thing this doesn't cover is what gets stolen and how much. I'm sure it could be coded in for a random selection.

If you can't tell, I'm not in favor of throwing it into the code =P. But if that happens, cool. If not oh well. And hey, who knows, if it does wind up working, it may be the awesomest (yes i aid it =P) thing ever and I'll eat my own words. Lol.

Syka:: I believe that the idea of course would HAVE to be put into a roleplay post. thats the idea. Just how you have to roleplay a character to die. not just say they had died. know what i mean? If 1 admin could keep logs as to who steals what, and what goes to who then there would be a better chance of not cheating. For instance maybe if there was an actual 'lock pick' option as what Rhodes was saying. Just like there is a post and narrate option. That way you could type out your post, then click lock pick or w/e the option may be. Atleast then, if they were to use that option you would know that they had posted and not just tried over and over to steal something? I'm sure after tons of brainstorming there could be some sort of 'no cheat' solution to thievery!

Rhodes:: I don't really remember what the original plans were. I do remember something about the Rolling Die suggestion coming up. Or even having houses that people were to own, and you could click on them and see about stealing something in them LMAO.

pfft! It's possible.... tricky yes, but possible! Oooh another idea just popped in my head.

There could be a special number 1-1000 to every shop. And a character has 1 chance a day to try to steal from 1 shop a day >.> Although I suppose I can see children going "oooh" and rolling die in that shop in every character -rolls eyes- but the good thing about BU is that.... little kids don't play here. =] and it could be managed.

A bit of note worthy things here. I had been thinking of my nifty shop long explanation short its basically a store of things that can be dropped or stolen, and sneaky creatures have taken or found the items that are sold, it will be noted in the desc in any case. First this store started out as an idea for a fairy and odd item shop. But like many ideas it evolved. And the reason for that quote to be copied was because, some one had suggested to me about selling lock picks. IN which, i went and found and if this shop things that seems interesting goes through. Those would be sold heh. so would childrens toys, randoms jewels and jewlery. Parchment and ink. I think it would be interesting to have this shop. in any case Lock picks would get sold, i already have a cool pic for it that are kind of olden styled and not like todays. If it helps the name of the shop i was thinking of would be 'Lost and Found'. But yeah i was thinking of selling the lock pick thing XD

Well the thing about that is, I believe I mentioned, you need the lock pick item. And you can't lock pick an open shop... so you have to wait for that person to be offline. And once you use the lock picks they'll break (if fail) and you wouldn't be able to get another if the person selling them isn't online. So it's complicated, even without the IC posts.

I mentioned this too. Gambling system based on branching. (Refer to previous post to know what letters mean) If 1 is c or d, go to 2. If 1 is a or b, stop, break "lock pick".

All the same we'll see what we can get with coding. :) Figure if you succeed you will always get something, whether it be just 100 gold or a cheap item you could have bought for 1 gold... or something you actually wanted.

This really doesn't have to do with the new chat in a way, but is it just me, or do Help Wanted and General Story line forums kind've have the same meaning... Just thoughts to reduce clutter in general. But otherwise I can't think of anything else to mention for the chat X3.

Help Wanted is for things like needing people to fill in gaps. Ie "My character just had a baby and I don't want to play it when it gets older". Not necessarily storyline things... though people turn it into that lol
